Today I learnt quite a lot about task management, and this has lead me to make some new discoveries and identify misconceptions I previously held. First off, I thought that Google Calendar would be more than enough to keep track of my tasks and how much time I’m spending on these tasks but I was very wrong. Though I was recording every day what tasks I did, and indicated how much time I spent on them by the size of the boxes, I had no way of knowing how many hours I was investing in said tasks each week, or month. As a result, I can’t learn anything from the Calendar currently, and I don’t know what I should be prioritising either. This is when I learnt that Google Calendar was not going to enough, I needed additional systems to do the things I want them to do. What I need is somewhere to record my tasks, another to record my schedule and one more to keep track of my habits.
I’m going to continue to use Google Calendar for my schedule, but to build habits I’m going to be using a tracking method. As for my time, spreadsheets is a tool I’ve been meaning to utilise. There’s a lot of new things I’m adding to make my task management more easier and efficient, and whilst some methods may work, others may not. But it’s important to always try and seek another way if the current one is no longer working.
