Given how I’m earning more money now, I now have the ability to buy the things that I want – no matter how ridiculous they are. With that said, I am also trying to practice saving my money as well. Because we can’t go out to the shops or restaurants any more I often try to rationalise my purchases with the thought “I would have spent this money regardless, if lockdown was over”, but I quickly stopped thinking like this. It was basically an excuse to spend my money, and not a good one. I also have a few habits that contribute to my spending, for example given how I work at a supermarket, I tend to buy something from there, even if it is a small chocolate almost always before leaving. Still, these small amounts will add up. This habit has been hard to break but I have been trying, and it’s been getting better. The main thing I try to do before purchasing something is ‘Do I really need this? Will I still use this a month from now? and so on’ and with these questions, I’ve learnt to gradually be more careful with where and what I spend my money on.
